JDR Cable Systems are delighted to be recruiting for a Tendering Director.

 

The Tendering Director will report to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and will hold overall accountability for all UK Tendering and Cost Estimating activities across both our Renewables and Energy markets. Leading the Tendering and Cost Estimating teams that includes the Head of Renewables Tendering and Head of Energy Tendering, the role is the executive representative for all tendering activities. The Tendering Director will be a critical interface between the Sales and Tendering departments and ensure that new awards are handed over successfully to our post-order teams.

 

The successful candidate will provide direction and strategic leadership to the Tendering and Cost Estimating teams, driving the on-time delivery of high-quality, commercially sound tenders.

 

The main responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Management and development of tendering risk strategy and ensuring company’s risk mitigation processes are strictly followed.
  • Identification and assessment of commercial and contractual risks; leading the Tendering team to protect the company’s financial and technical exposure.
  • Involvement in Sales and Marketing activities assisting the development and maintaining of customer relationships, including participation in key tender negotiations.
  • Lead, train and develop strong Tendering teams including PDP’s, objective setting and training.
  • Develop the department as necessary to tender new products such as HV power cables.
  • Continuous improvement and development of applicable process, systems, procedures and project governance, and to streamline department efficiencies. 
  • Actively participate in the company’s Lessons Learned process and ensure all Lessons Learned are implemented within the Tendering department, where applicable.
  • With support from Sales, monitor market intelligence and trends from competitor activity to adapt bidding strategies accordingly.
  • Provide regular reporting to the business against an agreed set of KPI’s.

 

As a Tendering Director, you will bring a proven track record gained within a similar senior tendering or commercial leadership role, with a strong background in mechanical and/or electrical engineering within the Offshore Oil & Gas or Renewables industry. A degree in an engineering subject, or equivalent experience gained in an engineering field is required.

 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to handle all technical, commercial and contractual aspects of complex, high-value tenders, alongside the commercial acumen to profitably manage the business implications of the tendering function.

 

Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure with precision and composure. Knowledge of offshore cable or umbilical products and systems, including EPCI contracting and consortium partnerships would be a distinct advantage, as would familiarity with JDR's products and markets.
